The sap beetles (Nitidulidae) are a speciose family of small beetles. Worldwide about 2800 species have been described, thereof 130 from Germany. They have many different lifestyles, some species feed on pollen, others suck sap from trees, some are found under bark or associated with ants. Some species also feed on animal carcasses and dung. The larvae of some species prey on scolytids, the larvae of other species are considered fungivorous.
