The narrow-waisted bark beetles (Salpingidae) are small beetles of oblong shape, which reminds of weevils. The beetles live predacious and hardwood and softwood, where the actively hunt insects and their larvae, especially bark beetles. Worldwide approx. 350 species have been described, thereof 14 from Germany. They are fairly evenly represented across the world but with an apparent centre of diversity in South America.
